Saxophonist

Saxophonist and clarinetist Daniel Daemen (Belgium, 1977) is a highly sought-after and versatile musician who has performed as a sideman and soloist on stages throughout Europe and even the United States.

He completed his Jazz Master’s degree on alto saxophone in 2012 Cum Laude at the Maastricht Conservatory under teachers Claudius Valk (Germany) and Hayden Chisholm (New Zealand).

He has participated in a wide variety of settings and collaborated with big bands, contemporary and traditional jazz bands, pop, neo-soul, folk, and theater productions, as well as crossover projects involving opera, Gregorian choral music, and dance.

Daniel is the lead alto saxophonist of the Paradox Jazz Orchestra (conducted by Jasper Staps with Rembrandt Frerichs, Teus Nobel, Niek de Bruyn, Jos Machtel, Jan Menu, among others) and has released several albums with his own Daniel Daemen Quartet and Duo Leidinger/Daemen. Furthermore, Daniel shared the stage with jazz greats such as Richard Bona, Carlo Nardozza, Bert Joris, Harmen Fraanje, Anna Serierse, Hayden Chisholm, Marius Preda, Robinson Khoury, Randall Corsen, Philip Lassiter, Paolo Fresu, James Carter, Snarky Puppy, and many others.

 

He plays with horn sections and orchestras like the Metropole Orchestra, the Royal Dutch Marine Band, Acda en de Munnik, Typhoon, The Jimmy’s Orchestra, The Atomic Orchestra (feat. Brutus, Daan, Alex Agnew, The Glints, Blackwave, Eefje de Visser, Selah Sue), Joanne Bird, and international acts such as The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Supremes, Gino Vanelli and more.

Daniel’s passion for big band music began with the Jack Million Band (multiple tours through America) and led him to the Glenn Miller Orchestra. With this band, he toured extensively through Europe and Russia. He is currently the lead alto saxophonist with the Paradox Jazz Orchestra and the Mosa Jazz Collective. He can also regularly be found on stage with members of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and the WDR Bigband.

Daniel is active with regional Limburg (NL) artists like Träcksäck, Rowwen Hèze, De Vrijbuiters, John Tana, Lex Uiting, Frans Pollux, Bart Storcken + Grupo Go, Beppie Kraft and in Brabant (NL) with singer/songwriter/guitarist Harry Hendriks.
